I just had to write and tell you about the impact your food has had on our life. My husband and I have two wiener dogs, Mandi and Harley and they are the love of our lives. We feed them Firstmate, because it is the first dog food that did not cause embarrassing dandruff in their black coats. A little while back there was a terrible dog food scare and we told everyone we knew that those sorts of things wouldn't happen if they used your product because the produce and meat are locally purchased and you treat our dog’s food as though you were going to eat it yourselves. Recently we were treated to a tour of your plant and I was so pleased to see the level of cleanliness and care that was taken in preparing the food.

I have been using your maintenance dog food now for 4 months and I am very impressed with this product. I have Australian Kelpies and they have the shiniest and healthiest coats they have ever had. Another note is the quality of this food, on every other food they have always had we always had a problem with gas. These were the silent killer type. LOL. I have a cat that I adopted from a shelter. They had her on a competitor high quality food which I continued for a little while. She is a Domestic Short hair but I noted her coat was very dull and even frizzy at the base of her sine by her tail. One month on firtsmate and she has a very shiny coat and the frizz is all gone.

I wanted you to know, I have been "trying" to switch both my pups over to the Firstmate slowly, but they keep picking out Firstmate and leaving the old food :) They both really seem to like it. One has colitis (Chicken and grains seems to set it off) and the other allergies (chicken), so it has been a challenge to find something that would not only work but that they would like - a food may be good but if they won't eat it, then it's not good for them). I can't tell you how many brands I have tried (and donated due to them not responding well or not liking it). I think I have found a winner with the Firstmate and I'm thrilled! Even though they are picking out the Firstmate and leaving the old food, neither has had upset tummies (another relief!).

Hey everyone I just wanted to sat thank you to everyone at First Mate. you see the food you make pretty much saved my dog's life. when I got Harley he was six months of age and I had no idea that he had a food allergy. he lost allot of weight and fur during his reaction to what we had been feeding him. in desperation I tried you make of food and in 24-48 hours I saw a difference in his skin. his constent chewing and licking decreased and he finally became regular. if it wasn't for your food I would have lost him. so ever since we've started using it he's been great, a nice healthy coat, and skin. the only food I use for Harley and his New Sister is first mate. and it's the only food I'll ever use. It works.

As an established English Bulldog breeder in Ontario we swear by FristMate. Cargo's daughter, Miracle (age 2 1/2) has had some food allergy challenges.
Her biggest challenge was breathing when she was born. However, following 2 1/2 hours (yes hours!) of mouth-to-muzzle ventilation she has developed into a smart, swift-as-the-wind runner, super swimming "Miracle" !
We tried other unique protein grain-free foods, but were not satisfied with her coat. Since switching to First Mate Pacific Ocean Fish Formula, her coat has become shiny and softer again!

I have used First Mate for many years. My dogs seem to have done very well on the food. One Keeshond I adopted many years ago when he was 8 years old lived a healthy life most of the 8 1/2 years he lived with me. Another Keeshond, who was 2 when I adopted him, was switched to First Mate, and he lived to almost 15 1/2 years. The dogs I currently have are healthy, happy dogs who have not had any health problems at all. One of those dogs is a Siberian Husky who is now 13, a Keeshond who is 12, as well as younger "siblings."

I stumbled over your sample packets of product in a pet store close to my house! After buying it and reviewing your web site I decided to use it in my cat’s diet. I have gotten very good results with my cat with it but the unexpected benefit came from a correction in his gums and basic whiteness and cleanliness of them! Since we adopted him he was plagued with redness and bleeding with his gums. I was able to correct %80 percent of the problem with brushing with a holistic paste but there was always a redness that was present! Your food corrected this and I thank you for your dedication to perfection! It is a rare commodity in this world! Funny how I was just at another pet store to buy another bag and I mentioned my results and the gentleman at the register said he used the food also and had the same results with gum and teeth in his cat. I wanted to thank you for your recommendation of the Pacific Ocean Fish formula for our rescue Bully-mix, Brody. He came to us with chronic diarrhea,swollen toes,leg rash,itch,losing fur in tufts and he was losing weight. After 3 weeks on your food, all of these symptoms have disappeared and he is gaining weight. His coat is no longer sparse and dull, it has a nice sheen and a deeper color. It is so good we are thinking of trying it for our older Bully, who has NEVER been able to eat any sort of dog food. Thanks so much for helping our boy.

We own a Rhodesian Ridgeback and our breeder had to approve the food we were going to feed our fur-baby. Firstmate was definitely approved. At first we fed him Chicken and Blueberries, which he LOVED, but didn't love him and later we figured out anything made from chicken or turkey made him very gassy!!! Keto is on The Pacific Ocean Fish and proud to say is smell free and no longer clears the room!! He's growing healthy and strong and has a nice shiny soft coat! Will definitely refer this pet food to anyone with any type of dog! AND it's local!!!

My miniature schnauzer who I rescued 7 years ago, was just diagnosed with liver disease and he has always been healthy till now. My vet told me to find a low fat low protein dry dog food for him. The hard part is that he also has allergies, so no Chicken. After researching on the Internet all day and calling over 30 pets shops, First Mate was mentioned to me. My 12 y/o Smooth Fox Terrier developed bloody diarrhea, poor appetite and weight loss.
After antibiotics, x-rays and ultrasounds he was placed on a Hills Science diet low allergen and Prednisone. Piper continued to loose weight while slowly having less bleeding. Piper had been eating California Natural Lamb and Rice for many years when he became sick.As a puppy he could not eat beef or chicken without skin allergies.
Although he was eating, the Science diet seemed to have little calorie value.
I discovered your brand thru my Natural Pet Store. After just 10 days with your kibble dressed with Natural Balance wet food(fish) ....MY DOG gained weight and energy. He continues low doses of prednisone but I feel your food has saved him.

Bijou always has like to eat, but her body doesn't agree with everything. It took us a while to find a brand of food she would enjoy, and that her body would process well. Since all the First Mate dog foods have a very close protein and fat amount, it makes it very easy to interchange between them and bring variety to her diet! We also have brynner, an American Hairless and Gizmo, a Chinese Crested/Yorkie. They all eat First Mate, and seem to enjoy it very much!

I am very happy to support a good Canadian Company.Since putting him on the Skoki product he's gotten back the beautiful shiney coat he had on Canidae.I had to take him off the Canidae cause when they changed the formula and went to Diamond to make their food he got sick on it after one day.Hundreds of dogs had the same problem as reported on the Consumer complaints site.The ingredients in the Skoki product are very good and I have no problem recommending to everyone I know in the dog world.Thanks

Miss Muffett was diagnosed with inflammatory bowel diease as a young pup and was given prescription dog food and a daily dose of prednisone- and she was still symptomatic. Eventually I'd had enough of giving her inferior dog food and a toxic medication and started offering her other dog foods in the hope of finding one with ingredients her gut tolerated. Our dog, Nellie, is a Border Collie / Australian Cattle Dog cross, about 13 years old. We got her from the Animal Shelter, where she had been for a long time because people usually won't take older dogs.

My Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Alki, suffered an acute gastrointestinal illness that left him with chronic digestion problems, which are complicated by allergies. We tried many diets, from raw to home-cooked to prescription diets. While his gut issues improved, he did not thrive: his skin was dry and flaky, his hair dull and stringy, and he couldn’t maintain a healthy weight.

i wish i could show yall the before picture of sirius. I had tried every food known to man for her even the raw diet for almost 2 years to no avail. she has megasophagus, was yakking all the time and was very lethargic/phegmatic. On advice I tried firstmate's pacific ocean fish (sirius had always hated kibble, but I was at wits end). She chowed it down like it was the best thing ever. after about 2 months she had lost 15 lbs, had a gleem in her eyes her coat got so glossy and was as playful as a puppy (she is 7+). i can tell she feels so much better now, I guess she was having allergic reactions to her foodstuff and since her eating firstmate that is all gone! It is like having my old pal back- she feels so much better which makes me as happy as a clam,lol.

Rocky was a rescue so finding out about health issues takes time. He was itchy when we got him but also had fleas. We live in an are without fleas so when he was itchy on a chicken food I knew heading to a lamb formula was important. I had had other Saints with itchy issues.Finally found a food that didn't upset his bowels and itching is gone. Beautiful healthy coat and happy boy!! He's my love!

We are the proud wonders of an Italian Mastiff that we rescued and she is in love with your dog food. I used to promote FM products in Victoria because they are local and the recipes seemed to make good sense to my limited pet food knowledge. After talking with a sales rep from the company I believed the product was good. However, as my cat was old and had kidney disease, we were unable to feed her FM products. She passed recently and my wife and I rescued to kittens of the same litter. I knew what food I would feed and am happy to report they absolutely love it. One of our girls will pass up anything for it, even wet food. Both cats eat it and look great. Coats are perfect, teeth are great, energy levels are high. Perhaps best of all, the FM cat food is a fraction of the cost of comparable brands. Well done FM!

My 3 year old yorkie, Frankie was recently diagnosed with pancreatitis in dogs. As a result, I had to completely change his diet and put him on a low fat food for life. Vet recommended home cooked rice and chicken but my little guy is so fussy (very picky eater) once we came from hospital, he was not eating anything. While desperately searching for dog food Frankie would like that also meet his new low fat requirements, I came across your product for Trim and Light kibble. The food pieces were big for a small dog, but once I cut them in halves, he chewed them down so quickly looking for more. I was so ecstatic to find a product that he likes and it is good for him. So far, Frankie has been doing great- he is full of energy, playful, and luckily there has not been any pancreases issues since we switched to Trim and Light.
